Backup Online

Do you still backup to tape?

Do you worry about whether your data is safe and who changes the tapes?

Do you realise that your most important asset is your customer data, financial information and stock records?

Secure your data and backup online with CCS Leeds remote data backup solutions today.

Most businesses have procedures in place to back up their data and servers every night. Sometimes they will even take a tape home once in a while, just in case. However without a 100 percent secure online back up of your data your business is vulnerable to fire, flood, theft, power cut, a virus outbreak or a technical failure. This would be a disaster, and indeed the DTI state that 70 percent of businesses who suffer a major data loss are out of business within 18 months. Can you take that risk? You can prevent this today by using CCS Leeds Remote Data Backup Service.

How CCS Remote Data Backup Service works:

The CCS Leeds Disaster Recovery Backup Service runs a daily (or more regularly if you require) fully automated online back up of your important data and files. After the initial installation of our backup agent on your server(s) and the selection of specific files / folders / disks / email / databases / the full server we create a "seed" backup online of the specified data. If this is a large volume, the "seed" can be completed to a removable disk / tape / other medium which we can import at the datacentre, saving valuable Internet bandwidth. During the seed process we encrypt your files utilising an industry standard mechanism, compress the data and transfer to our resilient NAS boxes located in our datacentres within the UK. All backups are verified upon completion by means of a CRC (Cyclic Redundancy Check)

Once the initial seed is created, we utilise a snapshot backup process which analyses the files on your server for changes each night and copy only changed data to our backup servers. The backup software then creates a catalogue of this data providing recovery snapshots at any point in time, subject to the data retention policy agreed at the time of inception. We have users who only want a months' worth of data retaining through to one who for compliance reasons, currently has almost seven years of point in time snapshots he can recover to.

Should you need to recover an individual file / folder, a real-time on-line web interface is provided where you can choose from either the most recent version (in the event of an accidental deletion) or a previous version (should you have over-written the file) from any point during which we are completing online backups for you. In the event of a total loss of a server or disk, we can recover volume data to CD or DVD or utilising our custom Disaster Recovery process, a USB Hard Disk, or a standard SATA hard disk which in many cases can be physically insert into your server and booted directly from. If it is in-appropriate to provide a full Disaster Recovery to a disk which you can physically install in the server, we can also provide a Disaster Recovery CD or DVD, which you can boot your server from and a separate hard disk containing your recovered data. Of course in all these scenarios, we are on hand to assist, be that on the end of the telephone, arranging a same day courier to transport your recovery media or physically on your site if required to assist in the process.

Open Files - As we fully appreciate business-critical server applications run 24 hours a day, we include an Open File Backup mechanism within our online backup application ensuring your e-mail, database, CRM, accounting or other proprietary applications are successfully backed up to disk on every occasion.

Microsoft SQL Server - Integrated within the platform are Microsoft SQL Server Agents supporting full backups, or differential, log, and log no truncate backups, which are significantly faster because only new and changed data needs to be backed up. The Microsoft SQL Server Agent add-on is designed to automatically restore a SQL server to a specific point in time, eliminating the complex manual procedures that are otherwise required to restore the SQL server. We support MS SQL 2005 (32-bit and 64-bit), MS SQL 2005 Express, MS SQL Server 2000, MS SQL 7 and SQL 2000 and 2005 running in two-node Windows cluster environment.

Microsoft Exchange Server - Our MS Exchange Server Agent provides fast, precise backups of Microsoft Exchange Server 2007, Exchange Server 2003, Exchange 2000 Server, and Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 while online. It can perform full, differential, or log/incremental backups at a database, individual mailbox, or message level to speed backup operations. The Exchange Agent is designed to automatically restore an Exchange server to a specific point in time, eliminating the complex manual procedures that are otherwise required to restore e-mail environments. CCS can restore the entire Exchange database, an individual public folder, a mailbox, or a single e-mail. We support Exchange 2007, Exchange 2003, Exchange 2000, Exchange Server 5.5 and MS Exchange 2000 and 2005 in a two-node Windows cluster.

Microsoft Small Business Server - Knowing the complexities of Microsoft Windows Small Business Server and the difficulties of restoring such a platform with the intricacies of Active Directory, combined with MS Exchange and possibly MS SQL and ISA server, we implement a combined product of four services, namely Disaster Recovery, Open File Agent, Microsoft Exchange Agent and Microsoft SQL Agent (on MS SBS Premium) to provide a seamless recovery route in the event of catastrophic failure.

FAQ:

How much space do I need? - A quick "properties" of the folder(s) you want to back up will give you the physical size of the files on disk, and typically you will need to add another third onto this figure to allow for file changes and snapshots of data over time to be stored. If you require our full Disaster Recovery service, then take the total size of your disk(s) minus the free space and again allow around a third extra for point in time snapshots and changes. Alternatively give us a call and we will gladly advise.

Do we need firewall changes? - Yes, at the point of service inception, we will need one port inbound opening on your firewall/router from a single IP address in one of our datacentres. Your server will also need full out-bound access to the same IP address. This is our control port, it makes for a far more stable and reliable mechanism than some solutions on the market which rely on web based ports and similar. We can assist / guide / complete these works for you too.

I want to backup more than one server / device - Can I? - Of course, give us a call to discuss the requirement. It can be even more efficient on bandwidth backing up a number of devices.

Does this service use a lot of Internet bandwidth? - The initial seed of data will utilise approximately half the number of gigabytes of data you wish to backup. Day to day changes typically are only a few tens or hundreds of Mb. We have many SME businesses who only utilise a 2-5Gig per month to keep their backups running daily. Of course you may wish to consider our own ADSL offerings, which include unlimited night-time bandwidth in every package, perfect for remote backups - CCS Business Broadband

I am located in or have a leased line to one of your datacentres - Does this make it cheaper? - Definitely. We have a service aimed specifically for our customers with leased lines or co-located servers. Give your account contact a call immediately to discuss the options.
